About Our Market

ABOUT US

Since its inaugural season in 2003, the Federal Way Farmers Market has grown into a long-standing community tradition. What began as a vision shared by Rose Ehl and her daughter Karla Kolibab, alongside Rose’s husband David Ehl, became a place where local farmers, artisans, and families gather each week to support local business and enjoy Washington-grown products.

For 21 years, the Ehl family owned and operated the Market. They built it from the ground up and helped shape it into a weekly event that many in Federal Way look forward to each season. David was a familiar face at the Market, known for running the donut machine for 15 years and serving regular customers who came back week after week. His presence, along with Rose and Karla’s leadership, helped establish the welcoming and community-focused atmosphere that continues today.

Over the years, the Market has grown beyond fresh produce stands. It has become a gathering place with live music, seasonal festivals, and special events like Federal Way’s Got Talent and Taste of Federal Way. These additions reflect the founders’ original goal of creating more than a shopping experience. They created a place for neighbors to connect.

In 2025, the City of Federal Way assumed ownership of the Market to ensure its continued operation and long-term stability. This transition honors the work and dedication of the Ehl family, with Karla continuing her involvement as a seasonal City employee. The City is committed to maintaining the traditions that Rose, Karla, and David established while also building on that foundation for the future.

The Federal Way Farmers Market remains focused on supporting local farmers, small businesses, and the families who gather here each week. We invite you to join us each season and be part of what makes this Market a consistent and valued part of Federal Way!
